Dear AYS Recreational League Players and Parents:

Welcome to the 2009
Spring Instructional Season!

I would first like to thank all of you who responded to our
volunteer request. The response was truly
overwhelming.

Our season will begin on April 19th. The first day will be devoted to meeting your
coaches, getting your team shirt and going through a series of drills to get
familiar with the ball and fields we will be playing on.

Prior to each game the coaches will meet and review the ball
skills and drills we will be working on with the children that day. While the coaches are meeting we encourage
you warm up with your child on the fields. Each week your child will need:

Water
Bottle (1or more)

Cleats
(optional U5 & U6)

Shin
Pads

Practice
Ball (Size 3 U5 o?= U7 / Size 4 U8)

Shorts
and Socks

Once back with their team the coaches will call everyone
together and introduce the drills. The
teams will stay with their coaches in the center of the two fields. Prior to
the start of the game the players will present themselves to the Referees for
an equipment check:

Shoes:
show the bottom of the boot

Shin
pads: Tap them

No
Jewelry: If your child can not remove it you must tape it.

The players will be utilized on either field throughout the
game. For Parent/Player Behavior Guidelines please refer to the Parent
Info and Spring Instructional In-Town Season sections of our website

www.attleborosoccer.com

About 2 weeks prior to the start of the season your coach
will contact you to let you know what team your child is on and where you will
meet on the first day. Please refer to
the Spring
Instructional In-Town Season sections of the website for:

Complete game day
schedule

Write up of the skills
and drills introduced each game day

Soccer is an all-weather sport.B Therefore you should
expect that at least some of your childo?=s games would be played on damp and
rainy days. The field conditions, not
the weather are the deciding factor for our Field Coordinator to cancel game
day.

All cancellations will be posted on our website and an email
will be sent as soon as a decision is made. If we miss 3 or more games we will schedule 1 make up session.

For our U7 and U8 players we will be offering 3 specialty
clinics after the game day:

Clinic
1: Goal Keeping;

Clinic
2: Throw-In

Clinic
3: Corner/Goalie Kicks (set up and defend)

An invitation will be sent out prior to the clinic date and
we ask you to let us know if you will be able to attend so we can plan the
correct number of volunteers, equipment and field space.

On game day we will have Age Group Coordinators at the field
to answer any questions or help you with any problems. They will know how to reach either myself or
Chris Macia, AYS Recreation League Assistant Director on game day. You can also
contact me directly at:

aysrecdirector@yahoo.com

On behalf of all the Recreation League Volunteers we are
looking forward to seeing you on the field and remember:

Play Safe, Play Fair, and Have Fun!

Local “Good Sports” have Global impact!

Attleboro Youth Soccer has made positive international strides in promoting good will. In keeping with their Mission statement “To provide the youth of Attleboro the opportunity to participate in recreational and competitive soccer leagues by teaching and demonstrating soccer skills, sportsmanship, honesty, respect, and fair play. To provide a safe environment where our youth not only can excel in their soccer skills but also learn the importance of physical fitness in their lives. To provide an atmosphere where the player’s emotional well-being will be nurtured as they learn the importance of teamwork, determination, persistence, and hard work. All members will work towards instilling in our youth the enjoyment and fun aspects of the beautiful game of soccer”. Attleboro Youth Soccer has widened the scope of their vision to include the youth outside of Attleboro. In doing so Attleboro Youth Soccer has donated their “slightly worn” uniforms to a mission in Guaimaca, F.M., Honduras. The donation of these uniforms helps to support a constructive program that helps “keep kids off the streets” by forming soccer teams. As we understand, the youth in that area don’t have much, but they do have a love for football …or soccer, as we call it! Attleboro Youth Soccer is very proud to be part of this affirmative program.

Dear Parents,

This letter is in response to the news story today that a youth soccer coach from Attleboro was arrested and charged for texting an inappropriate picture to a 13 yr.-old Attleboro girl. This coach named in the news story most recently coached the Explosion FC soccer club. Explosion FC has no affiliation of any kind with Attleboro Youth Soccer even though they are based here in Attleboro.

It has come to my attention that this particular coach had also coached an U14 Boys BAYS Travel team in the Fall of 2007. He had also occasionally played in the pick-up soccer games with high school and middle school boys at the Armory this winter.

AYS has never received any reports from parents or players coaches of any inappropriate behavior from this coach while he coached or participated in the pick-up soccer games. I would like to assure you that he is not now or will he in the future be coaching or participating in any AYS volunteer position or activity.

I would also like to assure you that our first priority is, and will always be, your children. AYS requires everyone who volunteers to complete a CORI ( criminal background check) before we consider them for any position in our organization. A CORI helps us to keep someone from volunteering if a criminal record is found. Unfortunately a CORI cannot predict future inappropriate behavior as this case has sadly reminded us.

I can understand if you have concerns or questions about this news story. If you do please feel free to contact me at pastjuel@yahoo.com or ays_president@attleborosoccer.com

Sincerely,
Paulo Araujo

AYS President

The Director of Recreation or a designee thereof has the right to cancel any activity or event on a city recreational facility at any time to ensure the safety of the participants and to prevent city fields from getting abused and destroyed when the turf is vulnerable.

All users of recreational facilities are REQUIRED to cancel an activity or event when potentially hazardous weather / field conditions exist. In addition to the use of common sense if any one of the following conditions exists immediate cancellation is mandatory:

1. Downpours, heavy rains, ongoing showers, snow, sleet, hail etc.
2. Standing puddles of water on a field.
3. Footing is unsure and slippery.
4. Ground is waterlogged and slushy or squishy.
5. Grass can be pulled out of the ground easily.
6. Lightning: Minimum of 30 minutes with no reoccurrence before re-entering the field.

The safety and well being of persons participating in athletic programs is of primary concern. Sports related injuries caused by poor playing conditions can lead to career ending injuries and permanent disabilities.

Additionally, when games are played on fields with poor conditions, it often causes irreversible damage to the fields. Surface damage is obvious and visible but as of equal concern from maintenance perspective is the sub-surface damage.

It shall be the responsibility of the individual who signed the permit to ensure that all individuals, teams or groups using a city recreational field do not use and / or vacate the field(s) when said conditions exist.

Each League or Organization shall (1) provide a copy of these guidelines to each board member and coach within their organization (2) provide a copy of these guidelines to any officiating organizations that may control the suspension of a game or match once play has begun and (3) post these guidelines on their official website.

Teams or leagues that refuse to follow this policy will be subjected to one or more of the following disciplinary actions:

1. Written warning to the President or Chairman of the organization.
2. Suspension of the team or organization from practicing on the fields for one week.
3. Forfeiture of a team’s privileges to either practice or play games on the City of Attleboro’s fields for the remainder of the season.
4. Having the league pay for damages caused by disregard to this policy.

ADOPTED BY THE RECREATION COMMISSION ON THURSDAY, MAY 17, 2007.

AYS would reimburse you the registration fee.

We will be offering a 1 o?= hour specialty clinic for all new
and returning coaches and assistants to get a hands-on look at the drills and
activities we will be focusing on over the 6-week season.

Every week prior to each age group session, Chris Macia, my
Assistant Recreation Director, will be reviewing the drills and activities
covered that week with the coaches. He
will also be offering player clinics for the U7 and U8 children who would like
to work on more specialized skills on Sunday after the games.

Subject: REFEREE COURSE
TO ALL:

Some of you may be interested in checking out massref.net for upcoming referee courses. There is one in Taunton the weekend of March 7. To take a GRADE 9 course(beginner) you must be 12 yrs old by the beginning of your first season refereeing. To take the GRADE 8 course you must be 16 yrs old.

AYS will reimburse you for 50% of the course fee. If you do take a course you can then go on to the BAYS website(BAYS.ORG) and apply to be a Travel Referee. To ref Travel games you would also need to go out and purchase equipment and uniform(s).

Even if you only wanted to ref recreation games, taking a course would help you become more knowledgeable about the rules.

thanks, David Arcese AYS Travel Director
